Chevy Chase Library Hosts 40th Anniversary Celebrity
Read-a-Thon
Ann Brashares, author of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
featured at Oct. 22 Event
Ann Brashares, author of the best-selling Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series for young adults, kicks off a Celebrity Read-a-thon at the Chevy Chase Library on Saturday, October 22, 2005. The Read-a-thon, to be held from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, is part of the Friends of the Chevy Chase Library celebration of the Library's 40th anniversary.
Brashares, who grew up in Chevy Chase, headlines a day of
reading featuring celebrities and authors such as Valerie Tripp, author of the American
Girl Books; Fred Bowen, author of The
AllStar Sports series and Washington KidsPost columnist; Katy Kelly, author of the Lucy
Rose series; W. Ralph Eubanks, author of Ever
Is a Long Time: A Journey Into Mississippi;
Laura Gansler, author of Class Action (soon to be a major motion picture, NORTH COUNTRY, with Charlize Theron); Allan Topol,
author of Spy Dance; George Will,
author and Newsweek columnist; Chris
Core, WMAL radio personality; Doug Gansler, Montgomery County State's Attorney;
and more.

The Friends of the Chevy Chase Library raises funds and advocates for the Chevy Chase Library, which opened its doors in 1965. Other 40th anniversary activities sponsored by the Friends include a raffle for a book-themed quilt created by the C&P Applique Guild, an essay contest, and a "Best Books" list.
