Subject Line - Libraries
Dear Friend,
Please take just a minute to help the Chevy Chase Library and the library system. This year we're asking anyone who supports libraries to contact County Executive Doug Duncan and ask him to fully fund the library system in the budget he's preparing to submit to the County Council in March. NOW is when he's evaluating where to increase and where to cut, and we want to make sure that the library is well-represented.

FYI:
* Less than 1 cent of your tax dollar goes to the library system
* Our libraries are still recovering from the cuts of the 1990s
* At Chevy Chase, we process holds after Aspen Hill and Bethesda, which means 50-80 holds per day--hundreds per month!
* We're short 3 staff positions
Insufficient funding means:
* Less money for collections
* Longer waits in line, for holds, and for books being reshelved due to staff shortages
* Progressively slower computer services like the catalog, Internet, holds and research
* Possible cuts in hours
Please take a minute to write to Mr. Duncan and ask him to fully fund our libraries. If you have a friend who supports libraries, please forward this message and ask him or her to do the same.
